Art Schatz has been a mainstay bluegrass and country fiddler on the Boston acoustic music scene for more than 30 years.  He currently plays with the Beantown Buckaroos (western swing), the Foggy Mountain Consort (Renaissance-Bluegrass fusion band), and Deborah Silverstein (singer-songwriter).  Subjected to classical violin training as a child, Art began fiddling in high school after hearing John Hartford, Vassar Clements, Byron Berline, and Richard Greene with his favorite country, rock and bluegrass bands of the day.  An interest in jazz inevitably led him to Stephane Grappelli, Bob Wills and the great western swing fiddlers.  Art has played with numerous New England bluegrass and western swing bands, including Grammy-nominated Southern Rail and The Bagboys for their 2008 tour of Ireland.  He has recorded with the Reunion Band and the Foggy Mt Consort, and on sessions with many other artists.
